Welcome to this month’s blog post! If you have any ideas for improving this blog, or any questions at all, please let me know in the Community Feedback Forum, or message me on the Fediverse (the link is in my profile). Thank you!
A huge welcome to all the newcomers; do feel free to explore the site and post/comment/reply in any of the forums and groups! The Share Space, and Connect Cafe, are probably good spaces to start; your input helps build the community.
Over on Pixelfed there were some issues with them leaking follower-only content, the discussion of which over on IFTAS Connect was here. It’s my understanding that they’ve released an update that fixes the privacy issue, but 33% of servers haven’t upgraded to this patch, meaning there is still some vulnerability there. Do join in the discussion if you have more up-to-date information to share.
There was a discussion opener here about the harm TikTok has on children on an industrial scale, and the business being lackadaisical in their approach to mitigate this. The company’s employees are actually quoted within this set of legal text briefings which makes the overall report into it far more damning.
User sohw started a pinned thread here to amalgamate any and all Fediverse events, so no-one misses out on anything. It’s a great idea, and if you know of anything happening, do add it to the thread. Thank you!
A researcher from Princeton has put out a call for users, admins, mods, devs, or organisers on the Fediverse to go have an online chat with them to gather new ideas for community governance. This was boosted in share-space, so please, if you have a little time, do consider signing up!
As always, the Library remains an amazing resource, with new articles being added all the time. If you have suggestions for articles, or feedback for existing ones, please let us know here.
Thank you for reading, and have a wonderful May! Til next time… 🙂
