Definition
The possibility of certain illegal, dangerous, or otherwise harmful content or behavior, including risks to human rights, which are prohibited by relevant policies and terms of service.
Background
This term refers to risks arising from inappropriate or harmful content, and from negative or dangerous online behaviours. Moderators should watch for posts or actions that threaten safety, spread misinformation, or promote harmful conduct. Identifying such risks can be complex, as it requires balancing between freedom of expression and community safety. Misinterpretation can occur when content is taken out of context or cultural differences are not considered.
It is often simpler to classify content based on a specific rule, rather than attempting to classify this behaviour. However, a general rule that prohibits breaking the Terms of Service can be useful for complex moderation decisions.
Example Rule
Posting content or behaving in a way that contravenes our Terms of Service (or Code of Conduct, or Community Guidelines) and poses a risk to others, either through harm or misinformation, is not permitted.
